a merkypie in japan

In 100 days I’ll be on a plane to Japan.

It still hasn’t kicked in yet. Probably because I haven’t received my placement. That little line, the one where JET’s like this offer is contingent upon receiving placement by a contracting organization, has made appearing on the shortlist all the more…. unofficial. There were a lot of documents to submit to secure my spot on the shortlist which makes me feel like I’m still applying for JET. I mean, after six months of filling out applications, requesting documents, going to doctors, fighting with the IRS, and every other hoop we have to jump through, nothing feels … finished.

It won’t feel official until I get that package with the DVD and my placement. XD

Speaking of placements, I heard that CLAIR has begun working on our placements. It made me wonder how this all works. If they waited on our reply forms to make placement requests then I honestly don’t see us getting placements anytime within May. So I guess when we make the shortlist they start shopping us off to the Contract Organizations.

The initial application asks us all sorts of questions. These questions are really for placement more so than anything else, now that I look back on it. The reply forms only asked if we wanted to accept the position, some contact info, and a visa question. The actual application has all our placement requests and other information pertaining to placement — like if we’re willing to drive or are we willing to teach in Elemenary schools.

Once the Contracting Organization picks us out, I guess they send in our reply forms and then they get our picture and stuff.

I guess.

Who knows. This whole JET process is a mystery.

As for what I shall be doing these next 100 days, I’ll be trying to catch up with friends, enjoy my home state for all its worth, and spend as much time with family as possible. I’ve also, hopefully, got a new job which will help in securing some major funds for Tokyo Orientation and that initial move.

Well. Here’s hoping, and praying, these next 100 days go by without a hitch!
