A little more than a month ago

I found out I was shortlisted.

Looking back, I can’t believe it’s been a month. It still feels like I just found out no more than a few days ago. One of my JET friends shared with us the Skype log of the day when we were finding out our results. I can tell you that it was just one hell of a nervous and stressful two days. So stressful, we were in voice chat for a huge chunk of the day. I had found out my results via voice chat so I don’t have any written spazzing, but to share:

My consulate had released the results around 4:30 that day. We were definitely on edge as everyone’s results trickled in. Needless to say, in our entire group, all the Americans were shortlisted. 100% success rate! The Canadians and UKers in our group, unfortunately, made alternate. Some have been upgraded in the month’s past though

My consulate JET page says there’s 84 days till departure. You don’t really realize how fast time is going until you stop and look at the clock. It seems so far away and yet there’s not enough time to really absorb everything and prepare. I’m still in this limbo on what I should do to prepare. I can’t do anything until I find out where I’m going. It doesn’t help that my mother is a nervous wreck at times wanting to know when, where, why, and how.

I’ve been slowly visiting places I never been to before in my state. The other day, I finally saw Lake Okeechobee. It’s so huge it seems like you’ve stopped at the ocean again. I wanna take a river tour of the Indian River Lagoon and river system. I also wanna see some things down south. I definitely wanna see Key West, maybe Tampa, all the while filming it to prepare a video presentation for my students

For me, this limbo between finding out we’ve been shortlisted and where we’re going makes me anxious at times. I wanna say we’ll find out this week, but I highly doubt it. I do feel like we’ll be getting our lovely GIH package this week.
